Four different ways to soothe teething pain

Teething process can last for months or for one to two years. As said earlier the teething process is different for each and every kid. But, most of the kids suffer through a lot of pain and swelling in the gums. And due to this pain and swelling they tend to get irritated cranky and sick. We can always use the following ways to soothe the kids teething pain

  • Pressure
  • Topical medicine
  • Painkillers
  • Cold objects

Pressure

Teething babies love pressure being applied on their gums. It helps in relieving the pain and takes the baby’s mind of the pain in the gums. You can gently rub on the baby’s gums with clean finger. This will apply some pressure on baby’s gums. You can also provide the baby with cold or room temperature. The baby will love to chew on it. This will also apply pressure on the gums.

Topical medicine

There are some over the counter gels and ointments available for soothing the teething pain. But, you should first consult with the paediatrician and then use these over the counter medicine.  Also one other drawback is that the baby might swallow a portion of the topical medicine applied on the gums. This will in turn numb the sensation in the throat and may cause a choking hazard.

Painkillers

If nothing works for your cranky and irritated baby then the doctor might think of prescribing some painkiller syrups. This painkiller syrups have the tendency to upset the baby’s stomach. Also, if the baby is suffering from fever and diarrhoea or any other thing you should consult the doctor immediately. These are not the symptoms of teething

Cold objects

Cold objects are used in soothing sore gums. You can put a washcloth in a bag and refrigerate it. Once, it is cold you can remove the cloth from the bag and give it to your child. The baby will love to chew on it. You can also refrigerate teethers and give it to your baby. The child will enjoy it. You can also give refrigerated large carrot. But, you need to be careful. The child might get choked.
